This cover design was created for Donmez Bazi Serpalar (Some Sherpas Don’t Return), a collection of short stories by Hatice Caner that illuminates the lives of Turkish women from diverse walks of life. Across these narratives, a shared thread emerges: Stories of repression, both external and internal, and the quiet yet persistent struggle between inherited cultural expectations and the pursuit of individual freedom.
The visual concept draws from the book’s layered themes; the visible and invisible forces that shape identity, the tension between tradition and self-expression, and the intimate journey of self discovery. The composition employs a balance of restraint and disruption, echoing the psychological and societal structures the characters navigate. The result is a book cover that seeks not only to frame the stories, but to embody the inner landscapes they reveal.
