Echo
A Bridge of Light in Amsterdam
Echo was selected among over 700 submissions as one of the standout proposals for the 750th anniversary edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival, themed “Legacy”. Designed for the facade of an iconic canal bridge, the concept envisions an “infinity mirror” light installation that accentuates the bridge’s distinctive architecture while creating a recursive illusion of depth. This interplay of light and reflection symbolizes the continuity of Amsterdam’s past, present, and future, inviting pedestrians and boat-goers to step into a temporal “portal” and see themselves as part of the city’s enduring story.

While the project was ultimately discontinued due to budget constraints, its concept stood out for its integration of heritage and immersive experience. Using LED arcs and mirrored panels, the design blended historical architecture with contemporary light art, creating a spatial narrative of legacy as an echo in time. Visitors would have encountered a kinetic play of reflections and illumination, prompting self-reflection on their place in Amsterdam’s continuum of history.
