An Interactive Sound Sculpture

Commissioned by Logo Software for their 40th anniversary exhibition, “www.” is an interactive sound sculpture exploring the evolution of communication and the impact of technology on modern life. Presented at Tophane-i Amire, the exact spot where the Ottoman Empire once cast their iron cannons, the exhibition aspires to bridge centuries of technological progress. The installation reimagines one of the simplest communication devices, the cup-and-string telephone, by augmenting it with custom wireless intercoms and software.
Eight 3D-printed cups with internal electronics are mounted on microphone stands and connected by strings in a tangled, circular array; evoking the complex, interconnected web of today’s digital communication. Visitors’ voices bounce and echo unpredictably from one random node to the next before fading out, mirroring how modern exchanges are never isolated but part of a shared, cloud-like network. Matching the exhibition color palette, the strings anchor the piece visually while the cup telephones invite visitors to step in and take part in the experience. As the main mode of communication of our age, every conversation begins with a World Wide Web.
